From Christmas 2000, LMCS diversified its service to staff homeless day centres that would otherwise be closed. In 2005 they will run centres in Cricklewood, Bayswater and Kentish Town, with the probability of another in Central London. During the six days operation over Christmas, LMCS serve thousands of freshly cooked hot meals, make thousands of hot drinks, give clean clothing and toiletries to over 1,000 people, and have numerous hairdressing appointments. We also give medical help and advice to those who need it, and provide companionship to those who join us for Christmas. We usually work with the Dog Trust, providing veterinary care and attention is given to many of the dogs that give company to some of the homeless. As well as serving the homeless themselves, by providing this cover, the LMCS enables those who work permanently with the homeless to take a break and enjoy Christmas with their families.
